legit feels like a line is being crossed when a licensed song shows up in a modern game lol

I think the underlying depression is that if even the remake studio is getting closed how the hell are original projects going to get funding

I’m sure it maybe exists, but I’m way less interested in LLMs coding me something as opposed to them giving suggestions for good resources to solve the problem I’m rubbing against.

But even that won’t work with how LLMs average everything out instead of finding high quality domain specific answers.

It has me thinking when was the last time one of these genuinely made me excited to learn about a new game?

I think it might be MK World? Open world Mario Kart was such a strange pitch and Nintendo is so insulated that you literally never know how they’re going to solve design problems.

If it’s an excuse for them to take GoW 2018 gameplay and make it work in three tight 10 hour chunks that honestly might be neat.

But that’s probably way too expensive compared to a Bluepoint style remake.

I think the major issue is that these days we can’t wrap back to multiplayer being a side mode either. Budgets are just too high for that.

Call of Duty, Quake, Half-Life, Warcraft.. All single player games with the multiplayer as a bonus. Multiplayer taking off was from the main game doing well.

Learned many members of the Ridge Racer team work on Ace Combat now and it’s so upsetting seeing a taste of how amazing a modern Ridge Racer could be like in AC7.

I love games like Killer 7 and Rez so much because you can immediately feel the deep influence of art outside of games in both, and yet, because they don’t really draw attention to it, most people rarely bring them up in the “games as art” conversation lol

The best thing about VRR is targeting 70-80% GPU/CPU usage, capping your framerate around a weird ass number like 83, and having a perfect time.

I will say as a complete beginner I mostly got into Dota with 30 hours of bot matches before even bothering to matchmake.

Then when I did matchmake it was typically with 4 friends to minimize the toxicity.

I understand most of the mechanics but my main hang up is that I just don’t have it in me anymore to set aside time for 40 minute long matches you can’t leave.

I remember the first time I played CoD at 11 I was scared to even matchmake because of the expectation of competition.

I was playing TF2 at the same age just fine with a server browser with zero external pressure.

I don't even know if it's necessarily motion inputs, but just the whole concept of positioning feeling so different in a fighting game vs an FPS or MOBA.

The feeling of being in the "bad part" of the map is very similar for those genres, but doesn't translate at all to fighting games.

It feels like a bad market mismatch to give a game trying to gesture around being in the same genre as Rust the aesthetics of a hero shooter.

The game barely running on 5090s also comes across as a really bad idea for a F2P competitive shooter??

Oh yeah for sure, just that unless you get a group together it's hard to emulate the feel of older MP games as they were around release.

I weirdly feel like the game would be way better received if they cut the art budget down and made everything out of stuff from the asset store like PUBG or BattleBit
