Michael R. Bloomberg, the city’s billionaire former mayor, gave $3.5 million this week to For Our City, a super PAC trying to stop Zohran Mamdani. That was on top of another $1.5 million Bloomberg gave to a different anti-Mamdani group, and his endorsement of Andrew Cuomo. The former mayor is now unquestionably the single largest donor in the race.

Really bizarre to watch Silicon Valley, of all places, buy into this stuff. Like some of the red states murdering their universities, I kinda get it, these places are run by complete idiots. But what do these software and engineering firms plan to do?

There's some detailed history/sociology to be written about all this for sure, the advent of online spaces that were both very public (in the sense of having very wide reach) and very private (in the sense of anonymity), and how it created new nexuses (nexii?) of bad actors.

Mexican immigration was basically the only thing that kept Chicago's population from completely cratering after 1970. We as a city owe our Mexican-American neighbors a huge debt of gratitude.
