Italy is the prime example of this so-called moral hazard problem. When the country joined the eurozone in 1999, its borrowing costs fell sharply to match Germany’s. The savings were enormous.

Over 15 years, the Italians could have paid off their entire national debt. Instead, Italian governments spent the windfall on consumption. The debt barely moved. Why would Eurobonds produce a different outcome?

Greece tells the opposite story. Under pressure from creditors, it restructured its economy, digitised its health system and consolidated its public finances. Its debt-to-GDP ratio has dropped from over 200 percent to around 150 percent. Painful, yes, but it worked. Eurobonds would remove exactly the pressure that made Greece’s turnaround possible. Begging for basic fact checks. These conflicted NZI ghouls appear to be able to simply take-up column inches because (a) media needs content, and (b) their sponsors pay their wages. And, when they get those inches, they basically lie through their teeth to shape opinion. Let's have a look [🧡 1/n]

Sooo, has actual amounts of transactions increased or the total $ value? Ie: we are spending more on less?
Also: does ECT account for oversease purchases? (Temu, aliexpress etc?)

Govt can ofc conjure up $200m out of thin air and use it to buy equity in a company. The Govt balance sheet expands by $200m on the liabilities side, and $200m on the asset side. As long as the return on the assets exceeds the cost of the debt, they are quids in. The ghouls hate it. BUT... [1/2]

Quick look at the Govt bonds and settlement account debt outstanding and the interest rate payable on each.
Govt pays about $7bn per year in interest - equivalent to less than 3% per annum on the $240bn total. Yes, that's less than inflation (has been for years).

Not sure if I'm interpreting this correctly. Does the size of the curcle represent the peinciple debt + amount paid in interest? Sorry if it's a dumb Q.

Useful graph for the debt scare folks. Govt debt-servicing costs are super low these days. So much headroom to invest in the many, many things we need for the long-term, yet still we beg for eye-wateringly expensive private finance.

Tim Murphy’s β€œomg everyone hates Luxon” piece is so funny bro white bread is up 60%, there’s no jobs, there’s literal shit in the air in the capital city, people responsible for the engines of economy are leaving in droves, no workers rights, no action on climate change, voter suppression πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈ
