I've come to understand that I needed to approach it with some sort of novelty, some hook to keep the dopamine flowing, hence the VR and 3D printing. As a result, I've accomplished more with 3D in the last few months than I've ever managed to before, and the progress has been sustainable.

I spent decades trying to get comfortable with 3D modeling and sculpting, but it never quite stuck. I'd eventually get frustrated by the tedium, get bored and lose interest, and felt ashamed that I couldn't stick with it. Post-AuDHD diagnosis, I realized it was because of how my brain worked.

Marwen is a great nonprofit organization that offers no-cost visual arts classes, workshops and mentorship for Chicago youth. I attended Marwen when I was in high school and the experience I gained there was incredibly valuable.

I was diagnosed at age 51. What the diagnosis helped me do was challenge pretty much every perception that I had of myself, and also to re-direct how I self-care. Therapy with the knowledge that I'm neurodivergent has been so much more effective (and healing) as well; I now allow myself some grace.
