Do I think they will disappear overnight? No. But I think people will stop relating to them on their own terms (the ones where the Bible has any moral authority, they are seen as good people who love their neighbors). And that's what really matters. They won the battle but lost the war.

I'm a pessimistic pattern seeker but I don't think the Epstein files are going to blow over and I think American evangelical Christianity is doomed. Utterly, completely doomed. Their moral authority is gone and they decided billionaire pedophiles were better than their own queer children.

Teaching parents to ignore their children's developmental needs and to hurt/shame/control them absolutely lays the groundwork for doing this to other people. And being willing to blame victims instead of abusers, since they themselves are locked into defending abusive parenting as good and godly.

The reason I believe evangelical parenting methods are a huge factor into where we are at in the US right now is because if you can convince parents to abuse their kids and ignore their pain you can convince them to do this to any number of marginalized peoples in society.

Was driving my kids to school and the first thing on the radio was reporting about Trump's video depicting the Obamas as apes and I think many people still don't fully appreciate what it means to have to raise Black children in a country where the president is so brazenly and consistently racist
