Anti-Substack Labeler: Substack Funds Nazis

@labeler.antisubstack.fyi

If I follow you, it's because you *don't* post on Substack and I want to support you! This labeler identifies Substack links so you can avoid them. Substack tithes to Nazis. See pinned thread for advice on switching to a new platform!

Hey, if you notice any domains that are getting past the labeler, can you ping me/let me know? The code checks header responses for links and usually catches custom domains hosted on Substack but occasionally some get by, and I want to reduce the number of false negatives.

Curate your own newspaper with RSS Escape newsletter inbox chaos and algorithmic surveillance by building your own enshittification-proof newspaper from the writers you already read

Newsletter: In a media landscape dominated by algorithmic feeds that aim to manipulate and extract, sometimes the most radical thing you can do is choose to read what you want, when you want, without anyone watching over your shoulder.

Here’s how to use RSS.

Some info I've gathered. Ping me once you've migrated and I'll follow you/add you to my list of writers not on Substack!

Moving off Substack definitely posed some technical challenges β€” they really don't want you to and they're making it harder every day. But I wouldn't go back. Even ignoring the perpetual edgelord drama over there, it's simply not a good enough platform to run a business. And it's way too expensive.

the amoral engagement chasing executives at substack (who openly embraced white supremacist writers and have paid huge cash advances to some of the internet's biggest bigots and trolls for years) did a whoops a daisy!

If you're not gonna leave Substack, stop pretending you are.

You're burning up a bunch of time and goodwill from the community that's trying to help you.

We have other people we can help who actually want some agency over their business, their content and their audience.

I got you. I detect and label posts with links to Substack, including custom domains. You can even choose to hide posts which link to a Substack so you never see them again.

I hope you have found me in the time that has passed since you posted this. If not, hi! I will label any post that has a link to a Substack (I do not label accounts).

I have yet to see almost any person on here try to justify remaining on Substack. They just silently plow ahead and ignore criticism.

And if you want to see who's hiding their Substack behind a custom URL so you can avoid sharing it, use the labeler: bsky.app/profile/did:...

30.07.2025 20:39 β€” πŸ‘ 80    πŸ” 48    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm not going to praise you for trying to get people to sign up for your alternative when you're still publishing on a website that funds and promotes Nazis, especially when Ghost, Beehiiv, and many other services will migrate all your subscribers from Substack for you with minimal headache.

30.07.2025 17:48 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

There are a few writers who crosspost to Patreon, Medium, etc, but I don't follow them/don't have them on my "Writers Not on Substack" list because they're still on Substack. Once they have completely left Substack, they'll be added to the list and I'll repost their work.

30.07.2025 17:44 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I have nothing against Taylor Lorenz personally. I have never interacted with her directly. I would promote her work if she left Substack entirely. This labeler's policy is that I will not promote anyone still distributing their newsletter on Substack, even if it's available elsewhere too.

30.07.2025 17:44 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Blocking the labeler does not prevent labels from being applied to any of your posts that contain links to Substacks, because the labeler listens to the jetstream. It does, however, send a message that you don't care about people's concerns regarding your continued use of a platform that pays Nazis.

30.07.2025 17:39 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Taylor has this labeler account blocked, by the way. I try to avoid ever directly interacting with people who are using Substack because I don't want to be accused of harassment, but occasionally people will let a person who uses Substack know about this labeler, and then the person will block it

30.07.2025 17:37 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The article "Substack Has a Nazi Problem" ran in The Atlantic in late 2023 and the response from Substack was weak at the time and never got any better.
You chose Substack a year later, knowing all of this.
Just leave Substack now. Plenty have done it and *gained* subscribers.

30.07.2025 17:35 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 7    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Substack platforms Nazis and they know they platform Nazis.

They just don't give a shit.

This is why I will never click on your Substack and why I don't follow accounts that use it. I don't trust Substack and your association with them means that I can't trust you.

Taylor: I had a six-figure income Substack until late 2023. I moved it first to Beehiiv then, because I didn't care for it, then to Ghost in late 2024. Each time the new site handled migration with no subscriber falloff and no income interruption. You are operating on bad information. Just move.

There are a handful of domains hardcoded because they kept slipping past the labeler (I think I wasn't checking enough headers), but I keep an eye on those and if they ever migrate from Substack, I'll make the appropriate updates. But they seem pretty determined to stay on Substack, unfortunately.
