Combat brigades are not Europe’s problem. Readiness of those brigades and high end enablers is. It’s not an issue now, given the state of the Russian military, but it could be in the coming years.

I could have imagined a lot of things in American politics but not a normalization of Nazi salutes and such tentativeness by the media to call them what they are. They are Nazi salutes. General Brown is a brilliant, amazing leader. I worked at the Air Staff for three years and it was known that he read everything the staff wrote for him. He believes if an analyst took the time to write it, it’s his responsibility to read it. Very few generals do this.

That’s true, but the past few years have shown that they go a long way. Also, if Germany doesn’t lead a responsible nuclear program for EU nuclear deterrence, it will be ceded to others. Finally, sadly, extended French deterrence is contingent on French elections (National Rally👀)

1. I wouldn’t call Germany a small state. Recalling now the Kissinger quote.
2. The last few years have proven the deterrent value of nukes.
3. Yes, conventional deterrence must balance with nuclear. Recalling NATO debates from the ‘80s and SACEUR Rogers.

Good men & women in EUCOM are—as they've done every month since Feb 2022—actively helping track & repel this aerial assault. Meanwhile their commander-in-chief at home is actively attacking Ukraine's president, while handing concession after concession to the state firing the missiles.

As Europeans sort out where to go from here, I hope they do not lose sight of the basic principles of solidarity and collective security and end up leaving the Canadians out in the cold.
