Three in two weeks. Could not be more proud of the newly minded Dr. Sameera Zia after successfully defending her PhD yesterday. This bright young star will do amazing things! Also, a huge thanks to @nachoriko.bsky.social for making the trip to Edmonton to serve as an external examiner

Figure 4 (L) Density maps depicting the spatiotemporal expression patterns of Il34 and Csf1 transcripts in RNAscopeβ„’ across development. Warmer colours indicate greater, while cooler colours indicate lower, transcript density.

Surprisingly, in transgenic mice with more developmental microglia proliferation, CSF1 and IL34 were unchanged, meaning that other factors are involved in regulating microglia proliferation.

03.06.2025 16:14 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

To get at this, Brady tested many factors and found that only CSF1R ligands like CSF1 and IL34 promote microglia proliferation. Both CSF1 and IL34 are found in the developing brain to regulate microglia proliferation.

Just out, recent work from the Plemel lab by the talented Brady Hammond. We sought to understand the factors that regulate microglial proliferation during development.

I knew this would happen, but it's still surreal to hear another nation's leader talk to us in a televised address the way US presidents have historically spoken to the citizens of countries led by dictators and despots.
