I'll leave with this from Sabicas. He was a controversial figure in flamenco at the time due to him both openly embracing more Moorish influences than a lot of purists liked, and being one of the first greats to teach non Romani guitarists.

I generally prefer the pre Paco de Lucia period of flamenco. He changed everything. He's the prog to Montoya's punk.

Saying that, his work with Cameron de la Isla is pretty incredible and definitely worth investigating.

Carlos & Ramon Montoya are an excellent starting point for early flamenco. They were really the first to highlight the guitar as something other than background to the singers and dancers. I'm a big fan of Sabicas as well. Less of a purist, which fits closer to how I interpreted it.

Flamenco, The Art of Flamenco; Its History and Development by Bárbara Thiel-Cramér is a good one. The Art of Flamenco by Donn Pohren as well.

I'd recommend joining www.foroflamenco.com, it was an invaluable resource for me when I first got interested, and is still very active.

We’ve been noticing that a lot of the AI generated music has songs about dust, which makes me wonder if dust is what the computer fears most.

Spotify is a horrible platform in so many ways. People should consider if they're ok using it. We use Tidal in the shop for streaming and are really happy with it. Some of the staff use Qobuz at home. Spotify sounds terrible and their ethics are disgusting.

Hello! Don't know if there is something weird going on with Bandcamp, but my copy is still listed as being a pre-order there.

Sweet! Really looking forward to this one. 10 Songs I Hate About You was one of my favourite albums of last year.

Fuck the UK government. I don't know why this shit surprises me anymore.

The Railway Club. Don't think the building even exists now. I should also note that I have played many shows in Inverness since then, and pretty much always had a great time!

Now that I think about it, I was also barred from the same venue years earlier when I was playing there and got in a fight with some arsehole in the crowd that was harassing our friends. So maybe it was just that venue.

That may have been me. I was once literally run out of town there after a show I was co-promoting while the bass player from the Stereophonics ran interference / hauners.

The bigger point being, I always want to trust the distributor to do well, so I won't preempt them, but I don't feel bad about checking their homework.

No harm checking with the shops if you have a contact to find out of the distro has already been in touch. It's not a bad idea to offer to do some extra promo for the local shops regardless. Could be as simple as offering to sign their copies, or make up some companion CDRs with demos, or the like.

I've never been disappointed with a Mike Watt show since the first time I saw him with fIREHOSE back in the day. One of the greatest bass players to live, and a fucking great story teller. Dae it!

Steve is a brilliant guitarist, funny as fuck, and one of the most empathetic and kind folk I've had the privilege of knowing. Go see him play, you'll have a great time.
