"Palmer Water Tower" on display at Blaine's Art

For the month of November, my Palmer Water Tower painting (one of my favorites!) will be on display at Blaine's Art Supply in Anchorage as part of their watercolor exhibit. I'll be there on Saturday the 8th between 4 and 5pm for their reception. Come by and say hello!

The next part of this nature painting involves getting up close and personal with a couple of trees much closer than those in the tree line at the center of the painting. Here's a montage of several photos from the process of painting this tree.

Our journey through the wilderness continues with much of the tree line filled in (one of the more time intensive aspects) and our wildlife blocked in, just to get a sense of shape and where our friend is going to hang out.

The middle section of this painting is more challenging, and time consuming. The tree line stretches from left to right, across the whole painting, and it's close enough to the viewer to require a fair amount of detail. So, a lot of work but it's also starting to look like a landscape!

The next phase of this painting involved turning the gray mountain into a defined peak and the slopes below the clouds.

With this painting, as with most other paintings, I started with the sky and the clouds, then moved on to the basic shape of the peak sticking up through the clouds.

The work on the sunflowers continue. I've added more definition around the petals and the scenter of the flowers while also adding the remaining two towards the bottom.

From a trip to Hatcher Pass this past weekend. Hiked up from Summit Lake on the April Bowles trail. A beautiful day but also very, very busy. Totally worth it though.
