I have finished “Peace Comes from Within” and preparing to frame it for a show I’ll be in about a month. The steampunk and satellite elements represent the distractions of life that can rob us of peace.

I haven’t posted for ages it seems. Very busy with life so at least today, I am posting some earlier work just to remind myself to get back to this! Pen and ink with watercolor. Probably two years ago.

Blue and red dragons in combat with two quotes. One from GK Chesterton and one from Gary Blaylock, author of Paper Dragons. Semi abstract background flows with pseudo “character” that resemble Kanji or Chinese characters. A far distant castle helps to place the view and the dragons high above the earth.

Aah…the view I only hoped for in my 24 hour stay at Talkeetna! We were there about a year ago and it was quite solidly cloudy. Loved it anyway!

Themed around how we construct rules—who rises to power and how society breaks down, tribal aggression and lack of compassion. Imagery and quotes from Lord of the Flies by William Golding.

Continued al no the theme of rules for a local show. Maybe I’ll get in. Should know in a few days. This one is themed around William Golding’s Lord of the Flies.

A playful random watercolor from a couple years ago. Areas of color enhanced by details my mind saw. A fish in upper left. Trees in top center, abstract fruit shape in lower right. It was fun to play. I don’t do enough of that.

Rules are made to be followed/broken with two quotes, from Mark Twain and Henry David Thoreau.

A piece I worked on for a juried show entry. Theme is “Politically Incorrect Correct”—inviting expressions of thoughts on political views, left, right, middle… This could be interpreted by the viewer for wherever they stand.

The GOP budget bill is 1,116 pages long but it boils down to this one simple fact:

Republicans are facilitating a massive transfer of wealth to the richest Americans while making cuts that would rip away healthcare and food from millions of people.

It's Robin Hood in reverse.

Yukon River Camp located just north of the Yukon River on the Dalton Highway. On the left, a map of the route from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay gives perspective to this very remote location. My journey went as far as crossing g the Arctic Circle then retuning. We ate lunch and dinner at Yukon River Camp, where the blueberry pie was nothing short of spectacular.

I’m in progress on a watercolor of Yukon River Camp, on the Dalton Highway. It was just really cool to be there.

Always interesting to see which one you prefer after two tries. I always like parts of both but rarely go for a third try to combine the best of it. 😜

Second version of same image—rocky promontories along Kenai Fjords in Alaska.

Second effort. I think I like I better than the first attempt. There are some good qualities to be found in both. This one has a consistent sky where it meets land, and scale is a bit better on the foreground rocky projections.

Watercolor on Arches, using Japanese Gansai watercolors. It is a waterlily variety, taken at the Japanese Garden at the Missouri Botanical Garden.

A lone tree on the right, on the edge of Moraine Lake in the Banff area of Canada. one of the moraines dominates the background. Misty clouds obscure the higher areas, as it has recently stopped raining.

Triple Lakes Trail heading towards Denali Park Village. Either side of the trail has pines and some deciduous trees with a distant view of mountain right of center. Overcast sky provided some raindrops on parts of the walk.

Really nice! Kudos also to the person that took your reference photo. I think portraits and people in general are quite a challenge.

I don’t expect to like everything I do, but I do like something about what I did every time. I’ve spent my life doing personal art and the most important part is that I love how I feel when I am creating something. Sometimes that alone is enough!

Beginning of my watercolor rendition of the reference photo posted and described here. Challenging myself to try a different style and so far…has promise. Right side foreground is nearly complete with trees on steep sides of gulch. BG fades into mist. Will be adding water details and left side of gulch.
