Great News - the motion to support #EndNotDefend and tackle workplace sexual harassement has been overwhelmingly passed at @ucu.org.uk #ucu2025 Congress today.
26.05.2025 14:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0βI'm sure the government wants to do something about this..because lower & younger lower-paid workers are particularly vulnerableβ
Great to hear from Jenny Jones standing in for Natalie Bennet argue for HSE involvement to protect workers most vulnerable to sexual harassment.
"It would be a no-brainer to try and work together across the House... to try and see if we can improve on what clearly isn't working at the moment."
Great to hear Lord Russell on the 51 years of legislation and why we need real oversight on workplace sexual harassement.
2/2 "The Government's Equalities Office Survey found that 29% of those in employment reported having experienced harassment in their workplace in the last 12 months, and only 15% reported it."

Day 4 of Workers Rights Bill in the Lords today & Baroness Smith's amendments are due to be heard.
Sexual Harassment causes PTSD, depression and physical health issues.
It means people fall out of work, it's a Workerplace Hazard that needs monitoring & prevention.
Part three of our webinar is available on our YouTube, in it, Sarah Woolley explains some great practical steps employers, workers and reps can take to spot and challenge sexual harassment.

Fantastic working with The Suzy Lamplugh Trust and Baroness Carmen Smith on amendments to the Employment Rights Bill- tackling the high rates of sexual harrasement in the workplace is early intervention that would have a huge impact on violence against women and girls.
08.05.2025 19:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As well as making workplace sexual harrasment a health & safety issue, amendments also call for anonymous reporting.
This is so important given that so many victims leave work rather than report incidents.
And when so many perpetrators are managers or in positions of power.
The new amendments being proposed in the Lords to the Employment Rights Bill (Clauses 99β100) would:
- Make prevention a legal duty
- Require employer risk assessments
- Empower the Health and Safety Executive to act on workplace sexual harassment.
Really important progress for the campaign - Baroness Carmen Smith has laid down amendments to the employment bill that will be heard next week in Parliament.
The amendments seek to make Violence and Harassment at work a Health and Safety issue. 1/2

Perpetrators are often managers or authority figures, leaving victims afraid to report. And in some industries, it's a business model used to "pull in the punters." 2/4

The UK ratified ILO Convention 190.
But workers still face harassment with no real protection.
We need more than headlines. Itβs time to #EndNotDefend, implement the law in full, and make sexual harassment a health & safety issue.

Last week we met with Suzy Lamplugh Trust and Baroness Smith of Llanfaes to talk about workplace sexual harassment.
We all agree that the law must do more. And the responsibility should lie with the Health and Safety Executive. 1/2
