I cannot recommend this fellowship enough. If you are interested in climate, want to build your network, or just want to be inspired by an incredibly passionate community, check it out! I am so happy I did! πŸ₯² Thank you for helping me make some pretty tasty lemonade! πŸ‹ 🍹

I didn’t know what to expect, but thought it was a great way to take some control back instead of drowning in uncertainty. It exceeded my expectations, I’m incredibly proud of myself for taking the leap of faith. It gave me knowledge, confidence, & new connections.

πŸ‹ The saying goes, β€œwhen life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” This year has been a whirlwind, a rollercoaster of grief and emotions, but it’s ending on a high note.

πŸŽ‰ I am incredibly proud to have completed the @climatebase.bsky.social Fellowship, graduating from Cohort 8!

This is absolutely awful. This was one of the best resources for climate indicators data, and my go-to share for help answering public questions.

Luckily I captured some of them on my new U.S. climate page a few months ago: zacklabe.com/united-state...

Many important weather and climate data streams have gone silent as the U.S. government shutdown continues on.

As just one example, NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory did not release its regular monthly update for greenhouse gases, such as for carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.

β€˜Hurricanes don’t just take lives, they ruin lives’: Meteorologist reacts to Melissa | CNN John Morales, meteorologist for ClimData, speaks with Bianna Golodryga about Hurricane Melissa, the strongest storm ever to hit Jamaica.

"This is going to be the worst disaster in the history of #Jamaica. And what I’m worried about is the long term, the lasting effects of the hurricane upon their region." As seen earlier on @camanpour.bsky.social @cnnipr.bsky.social

"I feel compelled to make people realize that this is not going away, that this is going to continue to happen over and over again, and that we need to harden ourselves in every possible way and adapt to these increasing disasters." β€”part of yesterday's #Melissa coverage on @nbcmiami.com

There will be a Jamaica before #Melissa, & a Jamaica after #Melissa with completely changed communities. Just when I think #Melissa cannot intensify anymore, it leaves me wide-eyed, jaw-dropped, & with a terrible pit in my stomach.

β€œTotal structural failure is possible near the path of #Melissa’s center.”

It’s sad. It hurts. Climate change impacts countries & people that are more vulnerable to the impacts & less able to adapt. Aren’t we tired of watching the same scary movie over & over again?

Rapid intensification is not new, but now happens much faster & more often. @climatecentral.org data shows #Melissa is strengthening over oceans 2.5Β°F warmer than normal, made 500-700x more likely by climate change!! Let that sink in. More strengthening is still possible.

26.10.2025 16:29 β€” πŸ‘ 19    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Not to mention, it is exacerbating & fueling what could be manageable storms into unthinkable disasters with heavier rain, higher storm surge, & stronger winds.

26.10.2025 16:29 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

To me, the scariest part is #Melissa was much weaker tropical storm just 24 hrs ago. Now, my eyes are wide staring at a potentially catastrophic Cat 4 storm. Rapid intensification is a serious problem. It shrinks prep time, catches people off guard, & puts more lives at risk.

β€œExtensive infrastructural damage, long-duration power & communication outages, & isolation of communities are expected.” πŸ˜” Strong warnings from NHC for Jamaica. Up to 40 rain could cause numerous life-threatening & catastrophic flash floods & landslides on the island.

Example of the new climate tool from Climate Central. This is showing climate change in Pennsylvania which is seeing annually a change in precipitation of 3.2 inches since 1970 and a warming of 3.2Β°F. Fall threats include heat, heavy rainfall, and sea level rise. This is associated with impacts like increased cooling demand, more extreme rainfall, and changes to fall foliage.
