I didn’t know what to expect, but thought it was a great way to take some control back instead of drowning in uncertainty. It exceeded my expectations, I’m incredibly proud of myself for taking the leap of faith. It gave me knowledge, confidence, & new connections.

🍋 The saying goes, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” This year has been a whirlwind, a rollercoaster of grief and emotions, but it’s ending on a high note.

As just one example, NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory did not release its regular monthly update for greenhouse gases, such as for carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.

There will be a Jamaica before #Melissa, & a Jamaica after #Melissa with completely changed communities. Just when I think #Melissa cannot intensify anymore, it leaves me wide-eyed, jaw-dropped, & with a terrible pit in my stomach.

185 mph winds, 892 mb central pressure - ranking top 5 strongest hurricanes ever in the Atlantic basin, but the most heartbreaking part…we are just hours away from landfall 😢💔

It is a category 5 now…that data was based on the forecast, which forecasted for it to peak at category 5…which it did!

It’s sad. It hurts. Climate change impacts countries & people that are more vulnerable to the impacts & less able to adapt. Aren’t we tired of watching the same scary movie over & over again?

Rapid intensification is not new, but now happens much faster & more often. @climatecentral.org data shows #Melissa is strengthening over oceans 2.5°F warmer than normal, made 500-700x more likely by climate change!! Let that sink in. More strengthening is still possible.

Not to mention, it is exacerbating & fueling what could be manageable storms into unthinkable disasters with heavier rain, higher storm surge, & stronger winds.

To me, the scariest part is #Melissa was much weaker tropical storm just 24 hrs ago. Now, my eyes are wide staring at a potentially catastrophic Cat 4 storm. Rapid intensification is a serious problem. It shrinks prep time, catches people off guard, & puts more lives at risk.

“Extensive infrastructural damage, long-duration power & communication outages, & isolation of communities are expected.” 😔 Strong warnings from NHC for Jamaica. Up to 40 rain could cause numerous life-threatening & catastrophic flash floods & landslides on the island.

This is showing climate change in Pennsylvania which is seeing annually a change in precipitation of 3.2 inches since 1970 and a warming of 3.2°F. Fall threats include heat, heavy rainfall, and sea level rise. This is associated with impacts like increased cooling demand, more extreme rainfall, and changes to fall foliage.
