Thereβs no evidence that offshore wind kills whales. But you know what does kill whales? Commercial fishing kills at least 300,000 whales and dolphins every year.

Damn.
And I've heard not a peep from the GOP lawmakers who went to all those ribbon cutting ceremonies at the factories.

βMy read on this is that there is not going to be any leasing for offshore wind in the near future,β said a career employee at the Interior Department, who Canary Media granted anonymity to speak freely for fear of retribution.

Analysts told me that it will be nearly impossible to find a bank that will underwrite the construction of MarWin now.
It was slated to be Marylandβs first offshore wind farm. But if there is a chance that itβs not going to qualify for tax credits β the upfront building costs are too expensive.
How does this impact real wind projects?
MarWin, the first phase of a 114-turbine project off the Md./Del. Delmarva Peninsula, is slated for installation in 2028 with onshore construction *possibly* starting next year. But they donβt have financing yet in place. π¬
βIf you take away the tax credits, it doesnβt make much sense to develop an entirely new (energy) sector,β Dr. Elizabeth Wilson told me.
Sheβs a professor of environmental studies at Dartmouth College who studies offshore wind policy.
A BloombergNEF report released in April said that:
1) Rolling back clean energy tax credits 45Y & 48E would be ββdevastatingβ for U.S. wind projects already in the pipeline.
2) Electricity produced by offshore wind farms that qualify for the tax credits costs 24% less over a projectβs lifetime. π€―
