That being said, I have to wonder what the state of those "no sabo" kids' Spanish is. But then, their Spanish is bad -or at least odd- because they don't really use it outside of the house, with their parents or grandparents.
26.08.2025 12:46 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0On the other hand, "descabronalos" would indicate these -or at least that character- is Puerto Rican specifically, which makes sense for Chicago's second largest Hispanic population.
But pretty sure no variety of Spanish, not even 3rd generation "no sabo" kids would yell "Correr" in infinitive.
Hey! Sorry about the harsh words; but I'm glad you all seem to have the heart in the right place.
I have to wonder what kind of speakers are currently common in Chicago right now. If Spanish there has changed in certain ways. But I can't find any use of "estamos saldos" online.
If Radiant Black will keep on having Spanish-speaking characters regularly... or better yet, infrequently... I'd appreciate it if Kyle Higgins would do just a teeny bit of consulting with a native speaker before publishing stuff like this
Same goes for most other American writers, really.
Altered screencap from "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", showing Captain Sisko (Avery Brooks) looking out of the window to see his alter ego, 1950s sci-fi writer Benny Russell, reflected in the window, only now Benny has the word "SISKOS" on his jersey in the style of the "SICKOS" meme and is saying "YES... HA HA HA... YES!"
i'm sorry
21.08.2025 21:51 โ ๐ 3263 ๐ 1130 ๐ฌ 60 ๐ 33I have to applaud the effort and attention to detail.
Even for Darkstalkers TAS.
Specially for DTAS.
I appreciate all forms of Patlabor, but something about the very specific balance of the original OVA series hits so hard for me.
Funny and quirky without really dumbing down; realistic and awe-inspiring; plus dialogue and direction are sharp as hell.
Always funny how those morons try to convince you that typing 15 words in carefully constructed Robot Tongue is so so SO much easier than typing 14 words in Human Speech

28.07.2025 18:08 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I have a fond memory of the first series being quite interesting. With a strong sense of style and mood.
And the second one being... rather forgettable.
It's good to know those impressions were not totally off the mark.
Ah, meant to comment here but went elsewhere...
I can't recall this scene at all.
If it happened, it was the least important thing in it.
Doing unremarkable, forgettable stuff 10 times faster is, I guess, the big accomplishment -ยฟ?-
I've no idea which scene he is referring to.
I don't remember any building collapsing.
So, if it was really used, it was explicitly because it was an unimportant, generic, blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene.
And he's blowing it WAY out of proportion.
I can't understand how Asbestos Man has only ever appeared in like 4 issues ever.
Such a meaty, heady theme potential for breathless suspense.
This is, indeed, an outstanding production.
And for a horror story, of all things.
Crossing all fingers for at least this level of art direction to remain for the entirety of the show.
-the colors/lighting and psychedelia touches are specially fascinating-
Stellar job there

But these guys delivered. Oh boy did they.
I can't quite put into words the way this issue got under my skin to press very specific, very delicate buttons.
While looking oh so beautiful.
While moving a huge mystery forward.
I can't stop thinking about this thing.
They got me.
Jim Shooter wrote the original story treatment for Transformers. Where most would likely have considered a license for a toyline disposable, Shooter insisted on putting out quality work, even sending back the original character bios to be rewritten because he didn't think they were up to snuff.
