You can launch killer drones from a ship in the Irish Sea but can't track the target plane in real time, relying instead on its scheduled time of arrival? Something hinky about this story.

He’s not succeeded in *any* of his disruption visions since when he was sitting in his dorm room rating women at Harvard.

But he’s ace at surveillance capitalism and privacy gutting and making billions doing so.

Immediately thought of the family member who exited a Costco with fries in one hand, hotdog in the other.

Set the fries on the roof of his car so he could unlock the door, and it was game over.

Gull swooped in, knocked the tray to the ground in a scene that would have made Hitchcock proud.

Exclusive: Survivors clinging to capsized boat didn’t radio for backup, admiral overseeing double-tap strike tells lawmakers | CNN Politics The two men killed as they floated holding onto their capsized boat in a secondary strike against a suspected drug vessel in early September did not appear to have radio or other communications device...

Downed RAF and USAF pilots captured in Occupied Europe would certainly have resumed their attacks on Germany had they been able to return to Allied territory. But not even the Nazis killed them to make sure they couldn't.

Space debris poses growing threat, but new study suggests cleanup is feasible High up in Earth's orbit, millions of human-made objects large and small are flying at speeds of over 15,000 miles per hour. The objects, which range from inactive satellites to fragments of equipment...

"We will need some agency to create an incentive for the debris remediators"

I snorted. Because, well "not having your expensive shit in orbit destroyed by debris" is one hell of an incentive that has been collectively ignored already.

The causes of the Great Depression remain inexplicable to most of us. We need a Pulitzer Prize-winning history to explain what went wrong. No great mystery, though, in what's happening today. The Trump Global Tariff Measures hobble the US economy and so the world economy.

Confusion surrounds B.C. Conservatives leadership after John Rustad rejects party’s bid to remove him | CBC

The drama of the BC case is rare -- a leader who refuses to leave after a caucus revolt & Board removal.

But the Rustad saga shows what besets a party that relies on expulsion to quell dissent.

We cover these tensions in our book, "No I in Team" (partyloyalty.ca).

It would be a damn shame if ICE, descending on Minneapolis, searched the streets and couldn't find a single person from Somalia. Then, a few weeks later, once ICE withdraws empty-handed, the Minneapolis Somali community can return to their homes from their vacation hosted by the City of Winnipeg.

Watched on TCM "Roughly Speaking," a 1945 Rosalind Russell/Jack Carson vehicle about a family's trials in America (see I Remember Mama, etc.). In 1939, the family lives just outside the grounds of the New York World's Fair. One night the lights at the Polish pavilion go out. That still lands.

Same argument. Why don't they just buy it? Or buy the rights to mine it? The US needs potash and doesn't have any of its own, but this is not a problem because Canada sells it to them.

I don’t understand the argument that Trump/Venezuela is about controlling the oil. The oil is already sold internationally at market rates. Even if Exxon Mobil owned Venezuela’s reserves, they’d still sell it to Americans for as much as they could. So what’s to be gained by militarist adventurism?

The U.S. defence secretary is being schooled by a fictional Canadian turtle for gross misuse of his image and the fact that this describes the current statecraft of America is both wild and predictable.

How does America come back from this?

I might also point out that the aesthetic of this image, particularly the Huey helicopter, is very Vietnam-era, which didn't turn out that well for the US. Also, if Franklin were to fire an RPG like that, the backblast would kill everyone inside the helicopter and therefore Franklin himself.
