More than 30% of this century’s science Nobel prizewinners immigrated: see their journeys The most common destination for eventual Nobel laureates in physics, chemistry and medicine since 2000 is the United States, Nature has found.

You've probably heard how a high percentage of #Nobel laureates are immigrants. The US in particular has benefited from the influx of bright minds.

@jennaahart.bsky.social ran the data for this century's Nobel prizewinners β€” and shows more than 30% immigrated. πŸ§ͺ

Also called biomolecular condensates!
This is useful is DNA repair, as these condensates can form and dissolve really quickly, acting like an on/off control. They also cordon off the repair zone, as nucleases needed for DNA repairs are a threat to gDNA.

Phase separation is a mechanism by which macromolecules are separated into concentrated liquid phase and a dilute liquid phase without any macromolecules. This happens in cells, which contains proteins and nucleic acids that have different physical/chemical properties to encourage phase separation.

Frustrated little dude gripping a pencil saying β€œhow do I pack this down into something I can actually share?” While swirling rainbows labeled β€œINFINITE POTENTIAL” float around them.

Little dude frowns at a tiny grey box, exclaiming β€œall that work for THIS?!”

Little dude shoves the grey box into another little guy’s hands; Frowning, stomping off, and saying β€œHere you go, I made this, it sucks.”

Second little dude cracks open the box, swirling rainbows project out onto their face.

Second little dude stares in awe at all the swirling rainbows now floating around them.

Sometimes we’re unsatisfied with a thing we made because when it only existed in our head, we saw all the things it could have been and when it’s done we know all the things that it isn’t, but we can’t see the way it expands into a million new things when someone else unpacks it in their head. πŸ–ŠοΈπŸ¦‘

Read an article about the β€œstride-to-foot size ratio” of a tiny dinosaur that was so high, which meant that it was flapping its feathered forelimbs as it sprinted.
I can confirm that the tiny dinosaur in my house has a very high stride-to-foot ratio! πŸ§ͺ

For 5 seconds I thought bart was welcoming vendors within the stations similar to HK MTR, and then I remembered there was an art fair. Art fair is cool but an additional source of revenue for bart is also cool πŸ˜‚

The BART experience could be improved slightly by providing a directional map of stations at each platform. Refer to HK MTR signage at each platform!
No need for digital signage (more susceptible to damage). #BART

When reading protocols/workflows, the worst possible diagram is a combination of Microsoft suite flow chart and table. Each step does not need to be a 2-row table in varying shades of blue.

Flash Floods and Climate Policy As the death toll climbs in Texas, the Trump Administration is actively undermining the nation’s ability to predictβ€”and to deal withβ€”climate-related disasters.

Despite being powerful predictors, tools and institutions like NOAA and the National Weather Service are being weakened, hit by staffing cuts, research center closures, program dismantling, grant stoppage, and data suppression under the Trump administration.

Graphs showing 25 years of budgets for the National Institute of Health, NASA, and the NSF. In all cases, the proposed budget for next year is far, far below any year of the previous quarter century.

There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd.
It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.

Protein editing using a coordinated transposition reaction Protein engineering through the ligation of polypeptide fragments has proven enormously powerful for studying biochemical processes. In general, this strategy necessitates a final protein-folding step...

We've seen tools for editing DNA and RNA - now we can do it with proteins too! Intein pairs can act like transposons within protein sequences.
