A line chart showing temperature changes (daily min and max readings) from 22 weather stations across the UK. The line charts include model fit lines showing average temperatures across stations over time (1970 to 2024), showing the estimated average increase at the right margin (about +1.5 degrees Celsius). On the right of the line chart, there is map of the UK showing the location of each weather station. Four of them are marked with annotations showing the highest (Cambridge, 2008) and lowest (Newton Rigg, 2010) monthly means and the hottest January (Yeovilton, 1990) and coldest July (Lerwick, 1993). Data: UK Met Office via TidyTuesday; Packages: {tidyverse, geomtextpath, ggarrow, ggtext, glue, rnaturalearth, scales}; Visualization: C. BΓΆrstell.

Visualising relationships between the arts and health The American photographer Irving Penn (1917–2009) described a good photograph as one β€œthat communicates a fact, touches the heart and leaves the viewer a changed person for having seen it”. This photo...

This is figure 1, which shows the effects of temperature on added sugar consumption.

A study in Nature Climate Change suggests that global warming may be associated with an increase in added sugar intake in the form of sugar-sweetened drinks and frozen desserts in the US, especially among more socioeconomically disadvantaged groups. go.nature.com/41Gch2u πŸ§ͺ πŸŽπŸ“ƒ

There was lots of data to play with for #TidyTuesday this week where we're looking at the power of different passports! ✈️

I decided to try out the idea of using small multiples and highlighting to untangle a spaghetti chart with lots of lines πŸ“Š

My biggest complain with Obisidian markdown is that it handles images "differently", which makes it extremely annoying when sharing a markdown document with someone not using Obsidian :'(

You would think that a file being .md should work the same across platforms, but nope.

Folks, always share your code. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be helpful. And if you feel that it’s still too messy or not sufficiently clean to be shared, you shouldn’t submit yet. After all, there could be mistakes in your mess.

5 years on and we are living with unnecessary airborne infections. Patients are continuing to have elongated stays. Covid continues to cause deaths in vulnerable and each reinfection increases your risk of long covid. We need clean air in our hospitals urgently. 🧡

Can climate science attribute economic damage to major polluters? Climate researchers argue their science has advanced enough to directly link emissions from particular companies to damages from specific extreme weather events

Can fossil fuel companies be held legally accountable for climate-related damages? Researchers have a new method they say links the emissions from specific companies to trillions of dollars in economic harm.
