Now retired. I have worked in electronics, computer simulations and IT in general. I have an interested in science and history. My political views have been described as "progressive centrism". (In my profile pic, I'm the one with blond hair).

The sunset from our balcony a few days ago. Itโs hazy from the bushfires in the Otway Ranges.
29.01.2026 09:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0What I can't help wondering is, who is this mysterious "Jewish lobby group"? I don't care they they are Jewish and I don't care that they are lobbying.
What I do care about is that fact that they can have so much influence without us being aware if it.
Maybe ABC should make all lobbying public.
Another tip: ask for a dry towel while they are removing the electrodes, to cover your eyes. I had some of the liquid they use to dissolve the glue trickle into my right eye and it really stung.
17.05.2025 11:02 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A little tip if you are getting this done: shave your head and chest before going in. I don't have much hair left and the hair I do have is pretty short. It still hurt getting the electrodes removed. It was like putting duct tape on your head then ripping it off.
17.05.2025 10:59 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I have spent 4 days in hospital having my brainwaves monitored due mild epilepsy. The results were as good as I could have hoped for.
I was there, pretty much, at my request. There were others who had to be there. Their problems made my issues seem rather insignificant.

27.03.2025 01:06 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Actually it might be more accurate to say we are all neuter at conception, since none of us produce reproductive cells at conception.
27.01.2025 02:22 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0(d) โFemaleโ means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell. According to Donald Trump's definition, we are all female. At conception, we are all effectively females. For us males, it is not until approximately 40 days after conception that the SRY gene activates and we start producing traits that would be described as male.
27.01.2025 02:17 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0So, by the look of it, you took the photo around moonrise from near the equator. Either that or you rotated the photo (to avoid any hemisphereism perhaps?).

There is greenery in the background and a drying lawn (seen through filtered sunlight) in the bottom foreground. The coloured items in the upper foreground are clothes pegs.
The thing that often surprises visitors is that most homes here have (electric) dryers, but we hardly ever use them. Unfortunately the original company let their patent lapse, so now anyone can call their product a "Hills Hoist". This one, in our backyard, is what we think of as a real Hills Hoist.
11.12.2024 04:08 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Pretty much every Australian backyard has one.
11.12.2024 03:18 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'm more interested in what sort of clothesline it is. Is it a Hills Hoist?
11.12.2024 02:48 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0These astronomical pics are all very nice, but, unless you took them yourself (which I doubt) it would be polite (not to mention appropriate) to credit the source.
08.12.2024 10:47 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It's sad to see Paul Barry retire as the host of Media Watch (on ABC Australia). It's rare to see a program like this that, at times, makes scathing reviews of even its own broadcaster. It's also hard to imagine any commercial media enterprise tolerating a show like this.

Two white single-engine aeroplanes (without their engines or propellers) mounted vertically (up out of the ground) side-by-side with wings overlapping in a featureless, flat desert.
We came across this driving along the Oodnadatta Track in September 2019. It has to be one of the oddest things I've ever seen. It's an installation called #PlaneHenge and is in the middle of nowhere (about 50 km west of Marree in South Australia).
02.12.2024 09:26 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It's funny how us Australians like to celebrate the arrival of 11 British ships on 20 January 1788. Oddly we celebrate it on 26 January and call it #AustraliaDay (or #InvasionDay), even though there was no such thing as Australia at the time. I doubt the 732 convicts felt like celebrating much.

To get me started, here is a photo I took from our backyard of a sunset in January this year.
