Jane Goodall lived an incredible life and her work was foundational to how we consider ourselves in the animal kingdom.

91 is an impressive number of years and it still feels too soon.

I get it we all like getting clicks but there are actually good clickbait titles that have the added benefit of being true

I’m also wondering about homoplasy and hybridization, evidently common across all of our evolutionary history.

Comparative morphology rocks but I have a hard time favoring it over genetics.

At this rate we will get GTA 6 before a fully resolved and consensus neanderthalensis/sapiens/longi phylogeny πŸ™ƒ

What I’m saying is, trump making a fool of himself is cold comfort because 1) it’s not even rare, we have that for dinner ever week and 2) it’s going to be really bad for a long time

Thank god the trump-autism-acetaminophen thing is funny because the consequences are going to be dire and far reaching, likely taking decades to undo.

Wakefields bullshit is STILL around and he wasn’t even a beloved monster.

It CAN be either. Theres a good argument to be made that lemurs are monomorphic because females must compete as fiercely for resources as males do for females (and resources).

But usually it’s a social shift to polygyny/polygynandry!

Birds are weird but in mammals usually dimorphism is a result of female choice and male competition for access to females. Monomorphism can come about when male and female β€œgoals” converge. You can get there a few different ways!

Sexual dimorphism of Australopithecus afarensis is striking and yet the hominins before it (Ardipithecus) and after it (Homo) are virtually monomorphic in most skeletal dimensions. Social evolution id a hell of a drug!
