The irony of social media is that the most effective way to silence critics, pundits, bigots and hatemongers is to COLLECTIVELY not engage them. Do not dislike. Do not comment. Do not post. Feed them indifference and silence and watch them starve, waste away, die, and be forgotten, as they deserve.

Which brings to mind a precept of "Dracula/Harker's" vampires: that they would much prefer to drink the blood of loved ones rather than that of the most deserving of death society has to offer.

"Maurice" is a favorite of mine as well. It's a shame Forster felt he couldn't publish it during his lifetime. But even posthumously, he scored against the bigots with his novel's happy ending. (By the way, there's a one-sentence homage to the Merchant Ivory movie in Chapter VIII of "D/H.")
