week 3, day 4:

finished chapter 18 yesterday (yay!) and i really like how it turned out, though it may be missing something. i'll have to reread later on.

today i started on chapter 19 and did some reoutlining of the upcoming chapters. i may have to bring ch19 on the camping trip with me....

i only got around to outlining ch18 last week, so today i wrote a good chunk of the first scene (this chapter only has 2).

hoping to get this one AND ch19 done by friday before i go camping! wish me luck...

week two, day 3:

i outlined chapter 17 yesterday and wrote all of it today (yay!) at the green line café next to the park :) pictured here is my friend maddie, also working on her writing, and some delicious pastries.

thanks! i've been looking for a nicer desk for a while, but always had trouble with how small of a workspace vintage desks tend to have. i'm lucky i found this one, which has enough space to lay out my laptop, a notebook, and a book all at once!

you folks might actually enjoy some slightly better pictures of the new writing-desk. yesterday i gave it a thorough cleaning, and when i find the time, i'll wax the wood and polish the metal to get it all shining. i've been looking for a new desk for ages so was thrilled to find this!

day 7 of week one: i finished chapter 16!!! tomorrow i'll start writing chapter 17, a tree-focused chapter, and planning chapter 18, in which things are getting in tense in the village.

also, first day using my new vintage secretary desk that i found at the thrift.

I said I could not fathom a world where we are PRACTICALLY worse off for having MORE educated people, and that worthless certs were a problem of treating education as a commodity and not as a learning place or even a training institution. The idea of devalued education is a sick one, isn't it?

it's day 5 of week one and i have researched and outlined chapter 16, a village chapter, and written about half of it. i think it's realistic to get it finished this week, but not to squeeze half of chapter 16 in, so next week will have to be a 2-chapter week.

so, the semi-arbitrary goal is to finish a full, good first draft of this novel by the time i turn 27 in november

i'm not going to count words, but i am 15 chapters in and, per my outline, have 25 to go

the birthday in question is in 17 weeks

so that's 1.5 chapters a week

We'll have more to say about the latest terrible executive order on our next This Month the Apocalypse episode, but underlying it, even beneath the eugenics, bigotry, and racism, is the belief that people who need help are a "burden" on society.

Helping each other is literally what society is for.
