I've lost a bit of faith in Bluesky as the new social media alternative.

I think it might be time to create a create a new Twitter account and get back to countering the Right, rather than wasting time and here failing-dramatically at playing leftier-than-though.

I wish right wingnuts did as good a job driving rightwing moderates leftwards as left wingnuts do at driving leftwing moderates rightward.

Lol. If only you'd show as much disdain for people like Kero the Wolf as you do for people playing with AI image-gen.

I think, in simplest terms, it's a question of psychology. You see a price, your mind thinks advert, so you disengage and scroll on. It's a survival mechanism we've developed in response to the 24/7 bombardment of media trying to sell us stuff.

I can see where you're coming from, but you again end up with the problem of the person with the power making the rules. There's a lot said about this site, and it's protocol, being 'billionaire-proof', giving individuals tools to moderate what they see, with less central control.

It's the same with the blocklists, if you're going to use them you have a moral obligation to show due-diligence making sure they're accurate, and that the people you're putting your trust in are honest and fair.

Only following the blocklists is no defence.

Absolutely, and I can't see an alternative at the moment. I do think it's something to always keep in mind though, and to be aware of as a vulnerability in the system.

I mean a key to this all working is for everyone to stay vigilant and not place unwarranted trust in authority figures.

Who fires them?

If the majority of a person's social circle remain on a restricted server after they have been kicked out, that is going to cause real harm to them.

It's nice to think this will only be trouble-makers, but history shows us this will be also include, whistle-blowers, sexual-harassment victims, etc.

Oh yes, and that's a great safety-net. Like I said I agree with the necessity of local moderation, but that doesn't mean we should ignore the potential human damage that abuses of power will cause.

There is already a sizable pro-Putin/anti-Ukranian contingent on here. So it's not a case of the mods being stupid, but a question of what their political motivations are, because for everyone who wants to be a mod to build a great community there's one who want to do so to enact a political agenda

Well it will likely be a restrictive host, based on the nature of the situation, and people will naturally prioritize their time (when I'm posting here I'm not posting anywhere else) and they will act out of self-interest staying where they get the most interactors.

I can see that, and it's necessity, but it's problematic in itself. Individuals are members of many differing friend groups, one friend being kicked may not warrant leaving unconnected peer-groups.

Also people from disadvantaged groups might not have the social capital to trigger such an exodus.
