Ken's Xmas Top 40 2024 Playlist Β· ken_garner Β· 40 items

I've skittered through my 5-day/ 1800+song Christmas library to bring you a new 2-hour show, a quarter of it new releases (this year & last), another quarter old stuff I've only discovered since I last did one of these in 2022 (still available). Cheery, in parts.

well, they could be imposing or blocking law in one part of the UK they do not represent, while other elected representatives in a different legislature covering their constituency, which has jurisdiction on the same issue, could vote differently. It's an inconsistency in devolved law at the least.

as I said, MPs from Northern Ireland and Scotland are of course entitled to vote on any matter. I was merely saying given the seriousness of the issue, and the fact that each of their devolved chambers can bring forward their own laws (as health is a devolved issue), it feels iffy to me they did so

I know that, but not everyone here mayβ€”and today is , in my view, a justification for that policy.

Though not an SNP member or supporter, on this issue I agree, I think they were right not to vote.

Every Unionist MP from Ulster, from whatever party, voted against the Assisted Dying Bill. But it won't apply there if enacted. Nor will it in Scotland, yet several Labour or Tory Scots MPs voted against it (including mine), and 2 LibDems. They've done nothing wrong, but it feels a bit iffy to me.

I think thousands, if not millions, of people across the country will be saying exactly the same this evening.

I liked and admired Louise Haigh, who resigned as Transport Secretary yesterday, but in her replacement there is now an added bonus, and further historical moment in our national life to note, on top of the bigger headline news from Parliament this afternoon. This:

I'd be very interested if someone could please draw up a Bluesky starter pack of humorists to follow. Thanks.

He could try anything, nothing would surprise me; but were he to run in '28, or, when opposed, suspend the election, it's the individual states that stage the presidential election, at the same time as the house of representatives election, etc. How many would give in?

Now it's filed for bankruptcy, I'm glad I inherited some of my Mum's Tupperware boxes. I even have some of the right lids.

I wish you well, Rob. The nerves or anxiety before going in are always far worse than the sheer mundanity of what actually happens, I find.
