Indonesia starts construction of 92 megawatt floating solar plant Indonesia's state utility firm Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has started constructing a 92-megawatt-peak floating solar power plant in the West Java province as part of the country's renewable energy drive, it said on Friday.

I'd wager anyone in that room is more qualified to be Secretary of Defence, and better understands the threat multiplier implications of climate change. Security think tanks have been thinking about it since the 1970s, & the Pentagon formally since the 1990s.

Indonesia is up to 20% new car sales are EVs, in the space of a few years...

Some of the most interesting trends in electric car sales are in developing countries, here Indonesia.

When price parity is reached & energy security is a concern, EVs will take off in the developing world.

Xi Jinping announced China's new climate targets personally, a positive gesture, but the targets brought little clarity on China’s future emission pathway. Targeting a 7-10% emission reduction by 2035 from an undefined "peak level" undersells China's current clean energy boom.

The basic dilemma for China's leaders is: you have to cut either the clean energy industry or the coal industry down to size; both can't continue to grow like they have. These targets just show they still haven't made up their minds, balking at the economic fallout from either.

Natural gas imported from the US to the Netherlands causes 40% higher greenhouse gas emissions than the gas we used to extract from the Groningen field.

Despite Trump, the World Isn’t Slowing on Climate, E.U. Official Says

I think EU Commissioner Hoekstra is right and that is good news. The bad news is that we are not accelerating.

I keep telling y’all that your voice and wallet are more powerful than you think, so maybe we should stop listening to the doomers and accelerationists who think things are hopeless β€” because things are only hopeless if we all give up.

NEW from me: China's CO2 emissions fell ~1.6% in the first quarter and have now been flat or down for more than a year. This is the first time on record that emissions are falling due to clean energy growth, not slow power demand.

Just your regular reminder of where global CO2 emissions are tracking compared to scenarios that keep warming to below 1.5C in 2100, with "no or low overshoot" (maximum temperature around 1.6C).
