A liberal elected official who skims the results from our trans policy questions might conclude that, in order to hew more closely to public opinion, the answer is just brute force to become more socially conservative on trans issues. But more broadly, as a believer in democracy, I think it’s good for elected officials to try and represent their voters.

In short, these paragraphs seem unobjectionable at first. It's when you get to the last sentence that you have to ask... what does that *mean* in practice? How do you "represent voters" here in a way you haven't already?

However reasonable Demsas appears, however right she is that "thoughtless moderation" is bad, she's talking about social media vibes, not politics.

You would never know it from this website but the median Democrat (a woman in her 50s) is quite fond of both Secretary Mayor Pete and AOC, and would describe Biden as “liberal” and Sanders as “very liberal”
