Abby just happened to be driving by when I was pulled over on the side of the road buying pretzels in an area that neither of us are typically in. Sometimes coincidences just galvanize a nickname. I guess I'm pretzel boy now.

Some days you can buy Gus's Pretzels from a guy in a lawn chair sitting on the median of Jameson Avenue. I did this for probably the second time in my life today. I immediately get a text from my sister who does not live or work in the area. The text says "PRETZEL BOY!"

Which, by the way, I think it was about a decade ago that I saw Jon Stewart speak at a fundraising gala at the non-profit I worked at. I didn't get to meet him, but it has helped make everything he has said in the last decade feel that much more real and validating.

You can fight what's happening in the world by asking others and organizations where and how you can translate your skills and experience and passions into opportunities to contribute to missions and impact.

The people who are the right fit are never the ones with the perfect experience. They are the ones with the willingness to listen, and learn, and collaborate.

-- all of these incredibly cool things that I never knew existed. Things that matter and move the needle.

I changed my path when I was in my 20s by joining the AmeriCorps VISTA program. It introduced me into the world of volunteerism, volunteer management, event management, fundraising, grantwriting, grantmaking, marketing, partnerships, strategic planning --

-- They do compensate employees. Nonprofits are like businesses with no owners or stockholders, but they do raise money and pay people wages and salaries like any other business.

And PLEASE -- If you hate your career, find a a job in the nonprofit sector or the social sector in some way -- there are careers that really do make a difference in the world.
I'm so tired of seeing people claim that jobs in the nonprofit sector don't make money. --

Educating people around you is difficult, but worthwhile. Keep trying to speak up, and don't give up, and rely on your friends for therapy. Keep telling your story, finding issues that matter to you, and never fear speaking up about your values.

The Republican party has been following a strategy to achieve this level of power for a long time. They win minds not through truth, but through their messaging and broadcasting.
