🧶 my first attempt moving the idea to social studies was for the legislative process as my students’ comic strips were all the same where every bill was vetoed, overridden, and became a law. So boring to grade! So I thought let’s get the kids thinking creatively and be more realistic …

1/28- 🧶🧵 wrapping up my month of lesson sharing with the favorite things I’ve ever made!! While helping my best friend develop a rotating station activity for the rock cycle I brainstormed ‘Roll Your Own Adventure’ to simulate historic events with a random result #sschat #Iteachsocialstudies

Day 27- propaganda is a huge part of 20th century US History. Have students analyze examples for primary sources... then make some of their own!

Day 25- 🧵 Hyperdocs are 🔥 with their versatility from single concept digital worksheets to digital guides that help organize and lead students through a whole unit. Add in critical thinking, debate, videos, and more! Good riddance to huge packets!

Day 24- another fun way to do a choice board is the menu version. Assign points based on level of rigor and/or research and let students mix and match their learning path! Here is one based on the founding documents CE.2 #sschat #Iteachsocualstudies

Day 22- a last judicial activity; don’t leave the unit without letting the kids decide some justice! You Be The Judge quickly reviews civil vs criminal but also has students decide what justice would be. #sschat #Iteachsocialstudies

Then find a way for students to cast their votes for each round - I use an office form. I do think explaining their rationale is an important part of the activity if you’re doing it for a grade….

Day 21- 🧵 everyone needs a good March Madness bracket, and mine happens to fall during Judicial unit!

Step 1- pick 16 items to research and choose criteria for the bracketing. Mine was most impact (either positive or negative)
