Years later in 1968, survivors from the Warsaw Ghetto gathered together at a rally in Tel Aviv.

Eighty years ago, Dutch born Klara Borstel-Engelsman became the oldest known victim of the Holocaust. She was murdered in a gas chamber at Auschwitz on 12th October 1944.

Unimaginable scenes of joy on September 18th 1944. Eindhoven was one the first major cities liberated from Nazi occupation in operation Market Garden.

Vilnius was once called the Jerusalem of the North. 76 years ago, #OTD September 23, the Vilna Ghetto was liquidated. 95% of the Jewish community was murdered. Resistance leader Abba Kovner survived, and went on to form the original Avengers.

Several days earlier, a wooden crate containing 25 #Torah scrolls was brought to the Jewish cemetery and buried in the ground; a tombstone was placed over the grave.

Andrzej Miłosz, reporter and WW2 resistance member, together with his brother Czesław (1980 literature Nobel laureate), helped two Jewish families during the German-perpetrated Holocaust.

Both were named Righteous Among the Nations.

He died #OTD in 2002.

July 15th 1942: the first transport left the Westerbork transit camp in the Netherlands for Auschwitz-Birkenau. Two-year-old Suzanne Hochherr and her parents were part of this transport. They were all killed at Auschwitz.

When WWII broke out, Selma van de Perre joined the Dutch resistance as a spy – and even continued her acts of resistance when imprisoned in Ravensbrück.
