Hold on, that sounds crazy. Americans love British accents. Where on earth was this criticism coming from? Was it crazy people?

A lot of pressure on, lots of things to do in compressed time, lots of stuff I should be better prepped for. been crunching for two months, but none of it means anything if I don’t nail the landing.

My bad - I was thinking of Phaser, not Electron. Different Javascript, but... Javascript.

My super-short reductive version: Ultima and Wizardry were the first CRPG formats - one third-person open-world and the other first-person dungeon-constrained. They became a foundation for how both eastern and western devs thought about RPGs.

I'm going to invoke @felipepepe.bsky.social, who's an actual RPG historian, to see if there are better tomes about the Ultimas and their impact.

The second two are a less academic, more narrative history of the OG studio and its development process. They cover most of the series.

So glad you asked! There are probably better introductions that I don’t know about, but I’d recommend these three.

The first is a formal academic examination of the first game and its design with occasional nods to later games in the series.

I just realized I was thinking of Phaser, which is another JS framework. But yes, there are games that use Electron.
