Postcard announcement for a 1978 Robert Frank photo exhibit. Stephen Archibald has far more enthusiasm for art than giving away parks. Could Art Save Mabou?

'Resistance, artistic expression, and community connection': Project aims to preserve history of burlesque in Nova Scotia - Halifax Examiner
"It's changed my perception of the city and made me curious about what else is hidden."
I want to give another bump to my story on a project about the history of burlesque in Nova Scotia. Interesting interviews and great photos. I feel like this one got kind of lost since I published it on a Friday afternoon. Not paywalled. www.halifaxexaminer.ca/arts-and-cul...

This is so beautiful, the folks at @phabns.bsky.social are really working hard to preserve the long history of Burlesque in #NovaScotia. Going all the way back to the 1800s to the now Neo-Burlesque era, if you are at tonight's Atlantic Burlesque Festival, stop by their table!

Calling all Nova Scotia burlesque troupes, past and present!
If you currently run or have previously run a burlesque troupe in Nova Scotia please get in touch with us at the The Society for Preserving the History & Art of Burlesque in Nova Scotia
We are compiling a permanent historical record to be submitted to the Nova Scotia Archives, ensuring our vibrant burlesque history is preserved and never forgotten. This document will become part of a binder dedicated to our community’s contributions, and we want to include as many voices and troupes as possible.
I’m deep in research and don’t want to miss anyone, so please reach out as soon as possible to be included. It’s more important than ever that we document and protect our legacy for future generations.
We will not be erased.

In February 1924, male impersonator Pauline Travis took the stage at Halifax’s Strand Theatre as part of “The Broadway Scandals”. Her bold gender bending performance is part of a rarely acknowledged chapter in Nova Scotia’s theatre history.

Digging through Halifax archives this week for treasures! Shocked there’s no full record of NS burlesque history 😫 Just scattered clippings. But don’t worry, this labor of love is coming together….stay tuned!

It’s #TransDayOfVisibility and we’re sending love to all the trans & non-binary folks in our community. Today we spotlight Marinka, a trailblazing trans burlesque performer at Halifax’s Lobster Trap Cabaret. Her story lives on in her book “From Havana to Burlesque” 🏳️⚧️💗

Just for fun—this was a popular movie in Halifax during the 1920s. I tracked down a copy on YouTube! 🎥🎬🍿

We’ve uncovered some incredible stories about the history of burlesque in our region — going all the way back to the 1890s— and we can’t wait to share them with you✨
