I was hired to work on a MAJOR live action Hollywood film (and I mean it’s one of the biggest anticipated films of the year). They needed a small animated sequence and wanted a character designer. I was handed a ChatGPT image and told “make it different”. I did - I spent hours finessing the design into something better and more specific for the character in the film. Waited a week for notes - then was told they got clearance from legal to use the original AI image instead. No need for any further work. This is what the director wanted. What are we doing as a society? What’s the endgame here? Replace every human until we are all homeless? I just don’t get it. If a major Hollywood film with a huge budget doesn’t see the need to work with real artists, is there any hope left?

Dude regularly works for Disney, DreamWorks, Netflix and CN so speculate away. But this sucks no matter which studio is doing it, and gross to think some major movie this year is running with a plagiarized image from ChatGPT.

M wife’s father lived through the Spanish Civil War & had to flee his homeland (ultimately settling in Mexico). She said it wasn’t until he was dying that he ever spoke about it, & even then only vaguely. Some serious PTSD there, as I imagine for anyone who had to live through those kinds of wars.

I’ll say this about the new Rockford Files and Boreanaz: Bones showed he can be breezy w/ an edge, & while he doesn’t have Garner’s star power, he’s a solid TV vet & if picking him means they’re aiming for the reboot to be more procedural TV than prestige wanna-be-a-movie TV, that’s for the best.

Hell yeah, he’s astonishing to watch when he turns it on.

Yeah, I think people really oversell how quickly AI will “take over Hollywood” (if it’s even able to take over at all). The problem isn’t the technology, it’s the doofuses in charge killing off a ton of jobs and workers in the assumption that AI will do it all.

It mainly comes down to movies that’ve gotten acclaimed or cult status but originally had short theatrical runs. So, off the top of my head:

Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk (the 120fps/4K/3D release)
Under the Skin
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

Yeah, F1 TV is accessible but only through an Apple subscription (fwiw the Apple subscription is probably about the same cost as F1 TV was).

The onus is not on me to believe wild hype, it’s on companies to prove to me that their products actually work (and do so in a way that’s beneficial to society). Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

When I see real-world examples of the hype being true, I’ll consider it a possibility, but not into then.
