To protect Alberta children, the UCP is removing their human rights and the ability of their parents, teachers, and physicians to protect them.
The UCP knows best.
This is a classic populist trope.

Danielle Smith is surprised that Albertans are using recall legislation for its intended purpose.
That's how the law works, Premier.
And no cabinet minister should implement laws while believing they are above them.

Maths...
If you make $100,000 a year (not bad), it will take you 10 MILLION years to earn a trillion dollars.
If you make a million dollars a year (wow!), it'll still take you a million years to earn a trillion dollars.
Tax the rich.
Here's Rob Anderson, Premier Smith's Chief of Staff, in 2013 (before the 2015 Supreme Court decision):
"That to me impinges upon their freedom of assembly, I would think, and their right to organize & so forth, which is a protected right under our Charter of Rights and Freedoms"

On the same day that Peter Lougheed's Eduction Minister said the 1981 cabinet would have never used the notwithstanding clause in the same way Smith did...
Smith doubles down and says Lougheed would have.
That's a special kind of something...

1. Nearly $400 million in cuts to health, losing thousands of public servants who are essential to our Medicare system.
2. No plan to expand pharmacare
3. $5 billion for buildings - but no plan for health care workers
4. Cuts to refugee health care
What's the hurry?
In just 6 years, the UCP has been responsible for nearly half of all time allocation motions in Alberta history.
They're promising to do it again today, this time ramming through a bill that removes Charter rights in a matter of hours.
The legislation is supposed to embargoed until tabled, but if this is accurateβ¦
Smith is invoking the notwithstanding clause to force teachers back to work.
Which is an admission that she is violating charter rights.
It is a dark day in Alberta.

In rare times like these, in a closely-divided assembly with a contentious issue at atake, backbenchers have more power than usual.
Will they exercise it and reassert the authority of the legislature and legislators, particularly on constitutional matters?+
The think tank is widely known for creating Project 2025.
And this isnβt the first meeting Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has had with allies of the U.S. president.

Mask mandates return in parts of the Bay Area as virus season nears By Aidin Vaziri, Staff Writer Oct 7, 2025
USA: Mask rules are returning to Bay Area health care settings from Nov 1 as COVID, flu, and RSV cases rise.
Counties including Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Sonoma, Napa, San Mateo, and Santa Cruz will require masks for workers, and in some cases patients and visitors, through spring.
UCP - We want teachers back to the bargaining table!
Also UCP - The earliest we can do is the 14th!
But at least it looks like bargaining in the teachers strike will restart next week!

N95 offers an order of magnitude better source control than surgical masks and should always be used for seriously immunocompromised patients.
Always.
Since before COVID-19.

Covid is not over.

When you wear a mask, youβre not only protecting your health, youβre saying you donβt believe anyone is expendable.
An amazing rally for public education. 20,000+ Albertans with one united message for Danielle Smith:
Pay the teachers.
Fund the schools.
Remind your discriminatory policies.
It is time to put the PUBLIC back in public education.

Mitigations like masks, anti virals, air purifiers and tests cost money.
We should have free respirators in public places. Mandatory masking in hospitals. Clean air benchmarks. Paid time off.
Those steps would drastically reduce spread.

Safe and close access to emergency medical care shouldn't depend on your postal code. Alberta needs to build capacity and safe staffing in public health care so people in communities like Fort Macleod don't have to drive to Lethbridge or Pincher Creek to get to an Emergency Department.
