HRT for people assigned female at birth. Medications. Testosterone (T) is available as: Intramuscular and sub-cutaneous injections, Skin gel, Adhesive patches. Testosterone is very hard on your liver if taken orally. Other medications are available to help stop your period. In some cases, the body converts T back into estrogen. There is medication available to stop this. Medications are also available to help lessen hair loss.
HRT for people assigned female at birth. Risks. Testosterone can increase the risk of: Heart disease, Stroke, Diabetes, and Increased blood pressure. Testosterone also increases fat deposits around organs and the mid abdomen, which can lead to an increased risk of unhealthy weight gain. HRT for people assigned male at birth. Medications. Estrogen is available as: Oral and sublingual pills, Intramuscular and sub-cutaneous injections, and as adhesive patches. Oral medications increase the risk of liver disease. The most commonly prescribed anti-androgen (spironolactone) will make you pee a lot, and might lower blood pressure, and increase levels of potassium. Other anti-androgens, and some medications that encourage breast growth, can worsen symptoms of depression. There is a somewhat increased risk of diabetes, gallstones, and heart disease.
HRT for people assigned male at birth. Changes. Hair loss/baldness cannot be reversed but its progress will be slowed after 1-3 months, and may stop fully within 1-2 years. Given the role of the colonial system in embedding binary gender, the aim of recognising identities outside of this binary is inherently connected to the project of decolonisation.

The PTP Pink Awards is a national event and content series featuring 2SLGBTQIA+ celebrities and activists (Champions) by recognizing community organizations (Changemakers) doing front line work with queer and trans communities in Canada.
As queer and trans rights remain at risk and these communities continue to be targeted by hateful narratives, the PTP Pink Awards counters these narratives by celebrating achievement and shining a spotlight on the people doing urgent work to fight back and protect 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
The 2025 PTP Pink Awards will take place on November 6, 2025 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto.
The celebratory evening is co-hosted by award-winning actor Emily Hampshire and Canadaβs Drag Race resident Choreographer Hollywood Jade, with the pre-awards pink carpet hosted by Bell Mediaβs popular radio personality Shannon Burns.
Who are some of your community heroes? Share in the comments!
Last year, the Pink Awards celebrated 2 Spirited People of the 1st Nations, Among Friends, pFlag Canada, Rainbow Railroad, Skipping Stone, and You Can Play.
