I wonder what the profs think about all this. I wonder if any big tech money is going into creating an AI detector like turnitin? Or if we just ban essays and make every assignment a test. Running straight into the OTHER big education story making the rounds.

Partly because at a certain point the students don't learn as much if they aren't held to the same standards, but mostly because spoiled rich kids are pretending to have a disability for clout/extra perks.

Poor/minority kids aren't taking advantage of this so it's not even helping them.

Come on. Do you really think elite students, in the last few decades, have orders of magnitude more invisible disabilities than the general population? And only the kind that get you accommodations?

I admit I don’t understand this attitude. A bunch of rich parents are doing another Varsity Blues, screwing over the poor and less connected, and the left is defending it. Why?

So we just make test times longer? Then it raises the question of where it ends. Some kids will benefit from even longer times, until we're turning all tests into take-home assignments.

Maybe test-taking as a measure is obsolete but I'd have to see evidence.

The Rochester post was interesting. Surprising not one teacher or prof in the article said "I used to assign the classics cover to cover, now I don't." Also, smartphones exist everywhere. Is this alleged phenomenon global?

Yes. People in their ingroup deserve to live and have kids. Rich people have a different ingroup.

If that's true, there are two problems. The big one being that nearly half of all students need a disability diagnosis. Does that seem likely?

Rich educated families are gaming the system. Why is the left defending this?

I usually dislike the whole Atlantic vibe, but the fact that rich, white, educated families are gaming the system is a bad thing and should be stopped. Everyone in an American school knows this is happening.

It's a problem because kids (and parents) who game the system get an unfair advantage that hurts honest kids and parents, who don't, and thus get lower grades.

The kinds of racists that think (some) Jews and Asians are superior have always existed a bit apart from the tacky gutter racists. The former either try to cultivate Jewish and Asian racists, or or say "how can you POSSIBLY call me racist when I believe other races are better than whites?"

When I taught college I was quite up front with students that the only sources I would accept were the Communist Manifesto and Mark Ruffalo’s personal diary. One time a student uttered the word “Bible” and I shrieked so loudly we had to hire thirty DEI laborers to replace all the shattered windows.

Breaking character: I am open to the idea the media's coverage of Biden's age and mental acuity was fair or perhaps not even tough enough. But the fact that it was so much tougher than the coverage of Trump's (more severe) mental decline is damning and I can't see how anyone could argue otherwise.

Why don't Democrats have anything similar?

Women sacrifice a lot to be able to have kids. Do men ever feel if they don't settle, marriage wise, they'll never have a family and that loss hurts them?
