I mean, it’s a pretty acclaimed record that had a strong debut on the album charts and sustained streaming success. It’s largely seen as her best album in years - if any album of hers has the “hey it’s Gaga, just give her the Grammy” stink, it’s not this one.

Honestly besides Miley I can’t think of a stronger contestant there to beat Mayhem.

I mean I love Sabrina’s recent music but Short N’ Sweet was SO much more fire front to back than Man’s Best Friend for me.

Tbf this song (like most Gaga songs) will probably sound great years later production-wise - Vertigo felt dated on impact. I still have no idea how that album did as well as it did besides just being “another U2 album.”

I have a sneaking suspicion that if, say, Witness was a REALLY good album, it would sort of avoid the “flop” label; at least it would seem like Katy chose to focus on quality over numbers and there would be that excuse.

Doja basically did that, but a.) she is more talented and b.) she had tunes.

I will die on the hill that she made a reverse deal-with-the-devil; instead of chasing money and fame, she went with higher quality and respectability.

I’m not sure she’s attained the latter, but I’m not going to lie - her music got WAY more interesting after she pivoted. Night and day.
