Totally! It so strongly pushed back against the disdain expressed by some of the people in the waiting area, for example. He was just someone who needed some help!

I'm very open to having things I like critiqued but in order to do that - to point to details, characters, dialogue & explain how it's problematic - you have to have seen it. Like, I just want one concrete example from the partner who's seen it so I can try to understand this viewpoint.

Yes! The Louie storyline is such a good antidote to the temptation to blame patients and disregard them!!

One of the doctors is complexly and empathetically portrayed as a benzos addict, hardly some nobler-than-thou condescensio, while...I mean...I need to know what patient in particular is portrayed as parasitic? Like, I honestly am scratching my head at this.

"According to a 2014 study, which surveyed and observed 3,000 university students, students engaged in off-task activities on their computers nearly two-thirds of the time."

Yesssssss, it's infuriating to watch allll the time.

Honestly can’t think of a single thing in it that would encourage contempt for the suffering. If anything I’m surprised at the extent to which it humanizes and respects people usually denigrated (I think of it’s treatment of a chronic alcoholic for example. Absolutely not vilified).

Yeah well Mother Nature promised me she would weed out the men with shitty attributes through natural selection, so none of us are getting what we want today.

I'm sorry but I can't help myself: the best fruit discourse is poisoned by conflating "average one you get at the grocery store" with "best you've ever had.". The classic example is peach, the average grocery store peach is dogshit and the best you've ever had is a transcendent experience

β€œHard work” and β€œconstant work” are not the same thing, and it’s a social sickness that we exist in a system that has deliberately conflated them to convince us to reject our own humanity

This is why it is an important political project to force lawyers, bankers and tech bros to work fewer hours. They *will* make a lot of money, and then use that money to influence politics, and influence it for the worse because, having never had the time to read a book, they are stupid and evil

Alysa Liu telling 60 Minutes β€œI love struggling, it makes me feel alive” is a legit revolutionary statement from a Bay Area native in a time when copious amounts of time and resources are being put toward convincing us to opt out of experiencing struggle, friction and self-actualization

I can't get over this number: in 2007, there were 360,000 newspaper jobs. Now, there are 80,000. "My local paper sucked!" Sure. What sucks even more? The void. "I get all my news from the Guardian!" No, the Guardian doesn't report on your town council, your school board, local cops.
