I also prefer the current mana rules (as long as things don't change).

This old mana rule must return in this case:

"If you would generate mana outside your commander's color identity, it becomes colorless instead".

I can imagine one way to change color identity rules for EDH to be like this:

"You can include any card that shares at least 1 color with your commander's color identity"

This can allow hybrid and split cards to be used in monocolored decks.

For ages the balance was this- wizards makes cards for Magic the Gathering. Commander, a fan generated format, chooses how to use them and which cards to use. The problem started when wizards began making cards for *Commander* instead of for Magic the Gathering.

(I would love to see 2 color cards with that border instead of the gold one tough 👀).

The "hybrid" border is only an aesthetic choice, to show cards that have hybrid mana in its cost, but they are (usually) multi colored.
They could easily have the good old gold border as any other multicolored card, and it doesn't affect how they work at all.

I completely agree that hybrid mana cards shouldn't be alowed in colors they don't belong, they ARE multicolored cards.

... just set a price cap for your EDH decks?

controversial opinion: i like magic: the gathering even tho the choices being made right now aren't my favorites. it's still one of the best games ever made and designed and i've made so many incredible friends because of it. it's the capitalism that's bad, not the game :3
