2025 Dumpster-Fire Overdrive (DFO-250++) No. 00006

Yeah, it cuts bass as you wind the Drive up, amplifying what remains. I build a pedal based on the same core topology, but with a lot more controls. It's killer on bass, IMO, but definitely not simple. Another good 2-knob guitar pedal that's good on bass is the Red Llama.

The DOD-250 has a lot of potential as a bass drive because when Drive is all the way down (as you have it), a lot of bass freqs come through.
But its potential is kind of locked up because you can't adjust the distortion at the EQ you like.

ah, indeed. I run my amps utterly clean, and I hadn't built my own favorite always-on overdrive yet.

At this point I prefer a clean boost of a good base drive than stacking distorting circuits anyway. (happy accidents are happy tho!)

I changed the clipping diodes to LEDs to get the dynamics I wanted, but the EQ still wasn't for me - it's on a friend's board now.

I'm happy with solid state amps myself, but it's great that there are options.

Using a million transistors, 10k lines of code, a lousy user interface, and 50x the power to simulate a couple dozen solid state components isn't the flex that some people think it is.

Oh yes, those are sweet, a great place to start.
I built a homebrew version for my own development. I put the power and I/O into a spare pedal enclosure (sideways) and stuck it to a bit of luan which has extra room to hold a breadboard.

Breadboarding is enlightening! 💪

Anasounds does pretty sweet kit, I'd expect theirs to be complicated.
