It’s not that people shouldn’t be nice or generous, only that these are not serious *political* proposals. Ultimately the way people are is heavily (if not completely) determined by the organization of society anyway, so we should start there.

I find statements like “what if everybody chose to be nice” or “it’s all because of greed!” thoroughly unmoving and naïve. Blaming our problems on the way individuals are (unlikely to change) rather than how society’s arranged (which we collectively have complete control over) is all sound and fury.

I have a lot of critiques of Mamdani as we ultimately do not have the same goals but it is my hope that the coalition he has built will move beyond him and advance the struggle. I Do actually think there is a strong pragmatic argument for his campaign

people act like its just about a moral victory but it's not. it's about having a basic materialist understanding of who our politicians are. im uninterested in litigating whether voting for harris was good or bad but if we're talking about pragmatism it WAS the pragmatic choice to abstain

This is the thing that drives me insane bc while I don't believe that electoralism should be our primary means of organizing i DO actually believe in using it as a tool pragmatically, its just that liberals keep lying about dems like harris and their actual principles and utility to our movements

when people complain about "leftist infighting" as a carte blanche call for unity, they actually hinder our ability to work through these differences and address the root. it just becomes a war of rhetoric and politeness and not an attempt to understand. some differences are there for good reason

the problem is that many people realize this discourse is detached, but go on to conclude that the problem being litigated is not real. this refusal to engage in historical materialism or self criticism goes on to reproduce the same social conditions that created the splinter in the first place

i think like 99% of recycled discourse comes down to tangible and real material splinters in social movements being reduced down to pure thought experiments detached from both the reality of history and the material conditions of the present. a simulacra of ideological struggle

i think this can be squared when people better understand labels as imperfectly communicative: descriptive of desire and embodiment sexuality/gender subculture and themselves always contested and never static
