Pinecrest Diner on 401 Geary has been independently operated since 1969 and is legendary. Henry’s Hunan by MoMA is quite good. If you like dim sum and go back to Chinatown, the Hang Ah Tea Room goes back to 1920 and is supposed to be the oldest continuously operated dim sum in U.S.

My dad says if you have time, Moe’s has a great poetry section, too, though he agrees City Lights wins.
