The problem with competitive TCG scenes with shuffling is that many people are trying to cheat. Been an issue since the dawn of MTG tournaments in the 90s. The shuffle enforcement's there for a reason, unfortunately.

I mean...they're not entirely wrong. Especially in games with small decks (see: deckbuilders) it can significantly impact things.

Pathfinder ACG was probably the most glaring example for us, but it's something I try and be mindful of in most games. Random is good!

Chess Joker, a game with a chessboard, pieces, and 256 cards. It's set up with some cards on display, and a few pieces have moved from their initial positions

I don't think you're alone in that - and I also think it goes beyond metal. We've had that "this feels AI-ish" vibe a lot recently when listening to new stuff in other genres.
