There is a federal holiday for Washington's birthday. There has never been a federal holiday for Lincoln's birthday. Here's an interesting history about the holiday: www.archives.gov/publications...

Musk probably was referring to the English and the Scot-Irish, aka Scotch-Irish or Ulster Scots, and not to the English, the Scots, and the Irish. It's just something he heard from his fellow American Nazis.

Shocking, actually. I never would have guessed that it was so concentrated within the broader categories.

A good way to clean house in the DHS would be to disband the Department, firing everybody. Functions can be transferred to other Departments or even to a newly designated department, where hiring can commence. Former ICE/CBP personnel need not apply and other applicants can be vetted thoroughly.

I am willing to bet that Bezos has been looking at the wrong data as well as misinterpreting it.

Perhaps the best reason not to label our government "fascist" is that Trump and MAGA would interpret that as congratulatory. (They are moving the ball but no, they haven't gotten there yet.)

I agree. If the Secret Service, TSA, and Coast Guard have to shut down, then so be it. It's a decision forced upon us by Trump.

People knew about Columbus in the 18th century, too. "Columbia" was a popular reference to the colonies as they united to fight for independence. The Territory of Columbia, later called a District, was the name chosen for the land that would host our capital city.

Also, the redaction decisions appear to be awful. Victims have complained that identifying information on victims has not been redacted, and that redactions continue to protect perpetrators. Just looking at some documents, many redactions make no sense other than protecting some Epstein friends.

Because ICE/CBP officers are wearing masks, we are forced to assume every dang one of them is guilty of participating in violent criminal behavior and, at a minimum, is unfit for employment in any security position.

Accountability for ICE and CBP However bad you think the corruption and misconduct at ICE and CBP is β€” the reality is far far worse.

Border Patrol hiring and performance standards have declined from this: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/accountabi...

"Wilhoit's Law" applies to the GOP today and was never accurate for moderate conservatives. ("Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.")

ICE/CBP agents who participated in illegal actions, like executions and assaults, and failed to arrest or detain or report the crimes, also are guilty and should face legal consequences.

They don't need to boycott, they just need to declare that they will not send anyone into the United States. They can participate in matches elsewhere.

Evidence suggests to me that the word is out to ICE, the Border Patrol, and the US Navy: if you're gonna shoot somebody, make sure they're dead.

I am not assuming that the victim had a gun on him before he was tackled. Evidence needed.

Has anybody seen evidence that the gun belonged to the victim or that the gun was on his person before the Border Patrol tackled him?

This should be the MODERATE position of Dems today. People need to be angry and justice needs to be swift and strong, across the board for al ICE and Border Patrol leaders and grunts.

I believe a real law enforcement officer, faced with the situation as it has been described by ICE, would have immediately given the child to Child Protective Services of Minneapolis.

For the US, the age dependency ratio today is about what it was in the early 1950s and much lower than it was in the 1960s. (Age dependency has decreased globally.) The workforce once had to support many children and now must support many elderly. Imho we should frame the challenge this way.

24.01.2026 17:38 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The Border Patrol is worse. People, especially their representatives, need to recognize that both are huge problems and need to be disestablished and replaced. Everyone working for these organizations, as a civil servants or contractors, needs to be permanently banned from government service.

Thank you. Nobody seems to be recognizing this fact. Consumers who paid the tariffs through higher prices will not receive the refunds. Potentially, at best, the refunds will benefit future buyers of foreign-made products.

You are my congressman. TRUMP now is the root cause of affordability challenges, among even more serious problems. He must go. And so must DHS ("repeal and replace" it!) along with all of the goons they have working in ICE and the Border Patrol.

Correct about conservatism, IMHO. The Iraq debacle and the Great Recession devastated the center-right's credibility to voters on national security and economic issues, two of its key calling cards. The remaining choices became liberalism (personified by Obama) and American-style fascism (Trump).
