Tom Baker Reflects on β€œReal Honour” of Getting an MBE (and Dresses Like Doctor Who Again!) Tom Baker MBE, who played the Fourth Doctor of course, has been awarded an MBE, as you can tell by the way we called him β€œTom Baker MBE”, because heck, Tom Baker MBE has been given an MBE! To celebrate, he donned his classic scarf (it’s a replica made by Lovarzi, in case anyone has designs on one), popped into the TARDIS, and enthused: β€œIt was a real honour to receive the MBE from Lady Colgrain, representing His Majesty, in the same way as it was a real honour for me to play Doctor Who for all those years. β€œIt never ceases to amaze me how fondly people remember me 34 years after my last adventure in the TARDIS and I found it hard to believe it was so long ago when I found myself back in the TARDIS last week, with my beloved scarf around my neck!” About time! Tom played the Doctor between 1974 and 1981, and returned for the 50th anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor, making everyone’s day, appropriately enough. And how wonderful that he equates receiving an MBE with being the Doctor. We’re very chuffed. He may look a tad frail, but he turns 92 in January and looks happy and healthy. How glorious that he’s stepped back in the TARDIS for a lovely little photoshoot. I’ve been rewatching Planet of Evil, one of my underrated favourites from that era, and Tom is just fantastic in it. He’s very alien, yet empathetic and somehow human at the same time. He’s always very engaging and draws your attention all the time, from when he’s delivering beautiful lines about responsibility or gazing off into the distance as if he can see something in the skin of the universe far beyond our understanding. Congratulations, Tom Baker MBE. We couldn’t be happier for you! Like this: Like Loading...

Panel 01: A ball drawn on a whiteboard. The ball has two eyes on its "sides", the sides not facing you. A wooden teaching pointer is pointed at it, and someone is speaking from off-panel, saying "prey animals have eyes on the SIDES of their head, like this."

Panel 02: The teaching point now points to another part of the whiteboard, where a ball has two eyes on its front. The off-panel speaker says "predator animals have eyes on the FRONT, like THIS."

Panel 03: We zoom out and reveal the speaker to be Shen, who is holding the teaching pointer and asking the class ahead of him, "any questions?"

Panel 04: It's 3 characters at tables in a classroom: A sheep with side eyes on one side, a tiger with front eyes on the other, and a shark raising his fin in the middle.

Neuroscientist here... creativity is a process. A process. A FUCKING PROCESS. Not an output.
Nobody is gatekeeping the process - Al simply invites you to skip to the end, to the output. Which, as mentioned, is not creativity.
Nobody cares if the output is aesthetically pleasing, because the process, the act itself, the limitation of a single human mind and the resulting creations that capture that one single inimitable human experience... is what makes a creation worth paying attention

A "cardigan" is any warm garment, typically knitted, that opens in the front with buttons or zippers.

It's named for James Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, and I'll explain why in a minute.

Cardigan is a town in Ceredigion County, Wales. The name means 'Ceredig's land', a ref to legendary figure.

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life
Song by Monty Python ( 1979 )

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle, that's the thing

A Doctor Who sad realization: in "The Power of the Doctor" both Tegan & Ace see their versions of the Doctor as older holographic projections.

Which means, Tegan & Ace both probably think their Doctors lived nice long lives before regenerating.
