This study presents a novel biomimetic nanoparticle platformβCaco-2 cell membrane-coated, manganese-doped ZnO nanorodsβfor targeted microRNA (miR-200c-3p) delivery to intestinal epithelial cells. By combining magnetic responsiveness, homotypic targeting, and lipid membrane camouflage, the engineered nanoparticles achieve site-specific delivery, enhance intestinal permeability, and modulate tight junction integrity without inducing toxicity.
The work demonstrates, for the first time, that:
miRNA-loaded nanorods can be guided magnetically and penetrate the mucus barrier.
Homotypic targeting using epithelial cell membranes improves localization and uptake.
miR-200c delivery via this platform significantly alters occludin expression and gut permeability in vivo.
This approach opens new avenues for precision therapeutics in IBD and barrier dysfunction disorders, offering a biocompatible, traceable, and customizable delivery system for gut-targeted RNA therapies.
π New in @SciReports:
Biomimetic ZnO nanorods camouflaged with Caco-2 membranes enable targeted miRNA-200c delivery to gut epithelium.

Seed-borne bacteria drive wheat rhizosphere microbiome assembly via niche partitioning and facilitation - Nature Microbiology
A sequential propagation strategy shows how the microbes initially on seeds are key to building complex, reproducible and heritable plant microbiomes.
Wow! Our paper in @natmicrobiol.nature.com has just surpassed 10,000 views in less than a month!! a rare feat for a #plant #microbiome study! We argue that seed-borne bacteria are the architects of the wheat rhizobiome. Thanks to everyone whoβs been engaging with our work :) doi.org/10.1038/s415...
