The first 2026 publication is out and I am so excited! This lab effort (led by @emorywellman) reviews the ecosystem services changes as salt marshes transition to mangroves. We found some research holes including nutrient processing and fisheries provisioning.

New Paper Alert! Check out this group effort on salt marsh restoration in stressful environmental conditions (i.e., California drought). Spoiler: Vegetation success in this restoration project was contingent on whether the restoration occurred in a drought or rainy year!

I forgot to post from the amazing Florida Sea Grant SEAS WAG meeting last week. But, as I sit here today watching more possible devastating cuts to NOAA, wanted to post a reminder that we are more than just weather - but coastal resilience. E.g, restoring mangroves destroyed by Hurricane Milton.

New paper t.co/q5YuiEZGLt led by @arizonastateuni.bsky.social PhD student Yilei Yu! 56% of flood-prone buildings in Houston are located outside of FEMA’s 100-year flood zones. These “overlooked” zones are disproportionately home to buildings that are lower quality and often uninsured.

The Trump administration’s attacks on scientific funding, restrictions on Federal scientist activities, and indiscriminate firing have caused chaos, panic, and harm. We need *specific* examples of harms caused by these policies to include in an open letter. Grants cut, projects cancelled, jobs lost.
