The values are key, IMHO. The Democratic Party has zero bedrock shared values that are nonnegotiable. Politicians that can go back to those values have a much easier time navigating answers instead of trying to recall in their head how that issue polled. Bashear is great at this too!

Photo of NBC’s exit poll data (from my work laptop, lol) showing Mamdani splitting the straight vote equally with Cuomo, but taking the LGBTQ+ vote by more than 5:1. Even though the LGBTQ+ slice is only 14% of the population, they were a LANDSLIDE in his favor.

This needs more attention: Zohran SPLIT the straights with Cuomo. ALL of his margin was from LGBTQ+ voters. Every Dem who ever said β€œwe should abandon the transes” needs this shoved down their fucking throat with a ramrod.

ah, perhaps instead of pumping millions into endless factional infighting Dem donors could invest in making local Dem organizations genuine civic spaces that can reach people during and between elections

I love that Zohran did not praise Cuomo in his speech. You absolutely do not have to say nice things about bad people. We should normalize that in β€œpolite” politics: Praising bad people is not actually β€œcivility.”

Democrats just ran the table, winning the marquee races -- NJ and VA sweeps, NYC mayor, CA prop, PA Supreme Court -- and lower-profile races in red and purple states across the nation.

If the media you're reading or watching paints this as anything but a massive win, stop reading or watching them.

Think about these contrasting storylines of the last week:

Zohran Mandani is the face and future of young Dems

Nick Fuentes is the face and future of young Republicans

If I can be serious here for a moment, the fact that so many establishment Dems backed him in the first place is really damning. They have to do better.

It's probably foolish to think a NYC mayor will successfully translate into being a national political figure, but I still think Eric Adams would be in my top 5 for "who will be the next Democratic presidential nominee after Joe Biden?".

Mamdani's opponents have been so ostentatiously, unnecessarily loathsome that they have succeeded in making me much, much more sympathetic to him than I otherwise would be, and I can't be the only one in that boat.

Texas has a special election for Sylvester Turner's seat (TX-18), a full seven months after he died, because Abbott capriciously delayed it.

A simple, long overdue reform would be for Congress to mandate by federal law how soon after a vacancy special elections have to happen.

We used to call this stupidity. There were smart people and stupid people and we let the smart people do the things they were good at and the stupid people were taken care of and didn't need to worry about what the smart people were doing. But now we let the stupid people think they're smart.
