I’ve been thinking a lot about how, if you don’t understand the fundamentals of historical study (change over time, significance, historiography), you’re left with a static view of the past. You also lose the ability to apply history’s lessons to the present & to engage in complex dialogue.

I am not moved by politicians often, but I am moved by Booker today. I hope more dems callously see how much attention he's commanding today take his lead. I don't care if the reason they do it is craven-- I just want them to fucken fight.
