DARK IMPERIUM - GUY HALEY
Ultramarines go brrrrrrrrrrrr. Like a bit of Death Guard grossness, and I liked seeing the Imperium from Guilliman's recently reawakened POV. Ending sets up the next book nicely. Very quick read and easy to imagine the action. Haley is super entertaining!
It's utterly brilliant isn't it!

Come Closer by Sara Gran is a shot-in-the-arm quick burst of dread horror. Spine-tingling in its implication, devastating in its execution.

Cinematic, vivid, exciting demon-slaying action with plenty of meat to the themes. I want this to have a big screen adaption as soon as possible! Clark writes a story that is hopeful and full of life, despite the characters facing off against the worst of humanity.

A constant sense of dread and tension pervades this novella, making this a nerve-wracking experience from start to finish. I wish this was 30-40 pages longer, just to flesh out some the characters and further the mystery. However, I could not put this down!

A lush, lyrical, vivid look at the cyclical nature of abuse and abusers, victims and trauma. Stunningly Gothic, as beautiful as it is disturbing. Yah Yah Scholfield is an author who needs attention, they will be going far!
Sometimes you read a book for which writing a review after almost causes you an aneurysm. @scribeofhades.bsky.social's upcoming #Daytide is one such offender but man am I glad I had the chance to have an early look!

A quick hit of dread, and feels like a very real depiction of the descent into the dark of a demonic possession. Some terrifying implications set out here. The desperation in the character voice here is masterfully disquieting.

A fantastic collection of short works, displaying Langan's ability to tell a story where the nuance of the seemingly mundane create a true sense of humanity and deepen the cosmic, terrifying elements. Some brilliant dark imagery here. Keep me away from upstate New York!
