I walked out of the door that moment and never returned.

The Super Bowl halftime show today was another of those moments.

I stood up walked to the classroom door and turned, then said, “You all say I shouldn’t listen to Elton John because he’s gay. But I was in the car last week with three of you who are upset with me now, and all three of you were singing Nelly’s “It’s Getting Hot in Herre” at the top of your lungs.🧵

One of the older grad students stood up, rounded on me, and started yelling that I shouldn’t listen to Elton John because he’s gay. He went on for several minutes about how the entertainment industry pushes “sin” on people. Everyone in the room was nodding along, except me of course. 🧵

When I was a college student, I was part of a pretty conservative church. One day, our college group was getting ready to start Bible class. We were shooting the breeze and I mentioned out loud how much I like Elton John’s music.

He looked at me funny and said, “I know.”

I was with a bunch of MAGAt types (my friend group is very mixed) who wanted to watch the TPUSA show. I walked out and sat on the back porch by myself. Someone came to sit with me about the time Kid Rock came on. My first words… “How is watching Kid Rock any better to them than watching Bad Bunny?”

The image that popped into my head immediately.

Discovering this community of SWs and the people who love them (🙋‍♂️… 🤭). I teach human sexuality in higher ed and what I’m seeing here is going to change the way I cover sex work with my students.

Seeing this post made me go down a “sex workers with/working on a PhD” rabbit hole. Shatter the stigma and stereotypes.

I’m more hoping for a Democrat landslide in 2026 and impeachment of Trump. Yes, JD is a world-class prick, but the GOP needs a massive loss (a voter-derived rebuke of Trump and his enablers) to change its direction. T-rump kicking the bucket early teaches them nothing.
